What kind of heater should I change to in Indiana?

I have started looking into different heating equipment than what I have.

Currently my husband and I rely on a central heater and air conditioner for our Indiana home.

We live in Evansville IN, AC isn’t really needed. Sure there are a few hot days in the summer, but nothing we can’t handle. The two of us prefer to open the windows and let a fresh breeze in amway. It clears out the air and removes odors. So having a cooling system is a waste of money. I have been looking at strictly heating only systems to save money. I am just not sure what I want. It seems like a boiler system is the most powerful and efficient of them all. The con of this type of heater is that a boiler is super expensive. It is also quite large and needs to be fitted in the basement. It can have piping hooked up to it to serve as the water heater, radiant heater, baseboard heater or a snow melt heating system. It is very versatile. I just don’t know if I have that kind of money. Yes overtime I am sure it would pay back for itself, but it is such a hefty expense. I have looked into furnaces but they require ductwork installation. My house is older and I am not sure it could withstand this difficult process. That leaves me with a fireplace or electric heated flooring. One isn’t that powerful to do the whole house and the other one requires my current flooring being ripped up. I don’t really like any of my options here.

I could just do a dual fuel system for my MO home

After reading about how energy smart heat pumps were, I wanted one for my Lee’s Summit home.

I wasn’t scared of the cost, I had the money and could always make more. I liked the idea of having energy smart HVAC equipment. I also liked having cleaner indoor air quality. When I started getting ready to purchase I found something alarming. A heat pump is only good in moderate climates. Since it uses existing heat energy, you actually need to have some heat. So if you live in Lee’s Summit, MO like me, you can’t expect a heat pump to find heat energy in -20 degree weather. Really a heat pump is only effective until around 40 degrees. After that you are staying in a cold house and using very expensive emergency heating. I was very disappointed I couldn’t have my heat pump after all. Thankfully I called my HVAC dealership and complained about it. The HVAC worker informed me that I could just do a dual fuel HVAC system in MO. This combines a gas furnace and a heat pump system. For most of the year the heat pump is the one at work. The heat pump provides AC and heating for temperatures above forty degrees. When winter takes over and it gets really cold in Missouri, that is when the gas furnace is tagged in. What is nice is that I never need to do a thing. My HVAC system automatically changes from electric to gas based on the temperature. So for around 75% of the year I am getting the most energy efficient HVAC option out there.

Just outside of Seattle, life is beautiful

When I sit on my front porch I can clearly see the skyscrapers of downtown Seattle. The way they rise over the foothills and endless oceans of green trees is quite beautiful. I love being this close to the city, at the same time I love being this far away from it, too. Overall I think Seattle is one of the greenest, friendliest, most forward-thinking places to live, but I am a mountain man at heart and I like my privacy. Living this close to Seattle gives me all the advantages of being a resident, with none of the down sides. And then there is that wonderful view, and I keep in mind that if I lived in Seattle itself I would miss out on this breathtaking sight. Under a canopy of twinkling stars the Jet City of Seattle looks like a thing of beauty. Many nights I sit on my porch smoking cannabis, drinking beer, and just staring at Seattle. Which brings me to another excellent point about where I live. There are many great brewers and cannabis farmers in the Seattle area that make top-notch products. Why go through the trouble of growing my own pot or brewing my own beer when the craftsmen of Seattle do such a wonderful job? I am close enough to the city that I can go and get whatever I need, yet I still have the privacy and solitude of owning my own land. I am happy to call Seattle my neighbor, but I still don’t want to get any closer to it.

I always love a weekend in Portland

When I was a kid I visited Portland several times, and always thought it was fun.

  • As an adult, I realize that the best things this city has to offer are not for kids! First of all, the local breweries and distilleries of Portland, Oregon are the best on the seaboard.

The craftsmen out here dedicate their entire lives to brewing the best small-batch beer, and distilling the most amazing and pure spirits you have ever tasted. The drinks are just the beginning, but the real star of Portland is the amazing cannabis it grows. The cannabis industry is thriving in Portland, because they cultivate some of the best strains and blends the world has ever seen. This may sound like hyperbole, but I’m being 100% honest. The cannabis laws in Portland and the rest of Oregon are very lax, so my favorite thing to do is get stoned and watch a live musical performance. The music scene in Portland is off the chain, with at least 1 great live show every single night of the year. I usually enjoy a joint of some high octane cannabis like OG Kush or Purple Haze, and then munch on a cannabis edible, before I go to a concert. This will keep me stoned and feeling groovy for the rest of the evening, at which point I check out one of the local Portland venues that hold concerts. Jazz, blues, funk, rock, or punk, no matter what mood I’m in I can find a live music show in Portland, and spend the rest of the night dancing.

Smoking cannabis in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is a three hour drive from my hometown. It’s close enough to drive there, but far enough away that I usually need to stay overnight. Why spend all that time on the road just for a few brief hours in Sin City? When I do Vegas, I do it right. I prepare myself mentally and financially for a wild weekend, and then make a mini-vacation out of it. It turns out there are a lot of ways to have fun in Las Vegas without spending a ton of money, but you have to be creative. And let’s face it, I have to spend some money, just for food, gas, booze, and of course cannabis. One of my favorite parts about Las Vegas is how relaxed they are about cannabis. That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, because why wouldn’t the Las Vegas cops support it? People get blackout drunk on liquor every night, and tend to start fights and cause trouble, whereas cannabis smokers never cause that kind of a scene. If someone smokes too much cannabis they just get sleepy, which is a much easier problem for the Las Vegas PD to handle. I keep cannabis and booze in my car, and usually don’t bother renting a hotel room when I visit Las Vegas. I want to party until I drop, and get every last moment of fun from the Las Vegas nightlife, and then when I run out of energy I start the drive back home. By the time I get back to my own bed, I’m ready for another trip to Las Vegas.
