Delayed flight meant more time in Albuquerque

I ended up spending almost three days in Albuquerque, New Mexico because of flight delays.

My area was in hurricane season when I decided to do a trip.

When I decided to come back home I was able to get as far as New Mexico and then all the flights to my state were cancelled due to weather. They wouldn’t fly even close to my state. My options were to rent a car and drive hours to make it home, or hang out in Albuquerque, New Mexico until something opened up. I hate driving for long periods of time. I hate worrying about needing to pee, getting lost and eating in a car. I figured I had the money, the time and I had never been to Albuquerque before. So I got a room at a really nice little boutique hotel and ended up staying for almost three days. The hotel had a 1920s theme for each room. The hotel bar was definitely set up like it was prohibition time which was cool. Another bonus was my hotel had a spa where I could get a facial, haircut and a massage. I kind of thought I would just stay in my room hanging out the whole time. After a bit of googling I found that Albuquerque had a lot to do. I didn’t really want to rent a bike or do a long hike though. I am kind of lazy in that regard. Instead I looked up the best places to eat in Albuquerque and found a huge list of restaurants, bakeries and even a cannabis cafe because it is legal there. I ended up eating a whole bunch of delicious meals while I waited to go home.

Business trip to Albuquerque was a surprise

I frequently travel to a new state and give a presentation to prospective clients.

It usually takes one to two days of meeting with people to sign a deal.

I then elect to stay part of the weekend in the area if I think it is good enough. Typically the places I am sent to are a huge letdown. There usually isn’t much to do unless I want to see a local baseball, hockey or basketball game. I recently went to Albuquerque, New Mexico though. That was a surprise. I am glad that I didn’t write the city off as boring and did some research first. I did a quick peek at the top 50 things to do in Albuquerque and found that there is a vast selection. You can be active with bike routes and hikes. You can eat amazing food like green chile bread. You can also tour winnies, museums or shop at Old Town. I decided it was worth spending an extra day to see the city in person. I am so glad I did that. Anytime someone asks me a place that I went and enjoyed, I mention Albuquerque, New Mexico. You don’t hear a lot about it but it is such a nice area. Any kind of person would have fun. I also happened to stay at a hotel that offered rooftop dining. At night I could have my dinner and look at the city line. The weather was gorgeous and the sights were amazing. I ended up spending a lot of time there just eating, drinking and relaxing. I definitely want to take my wife there for a trip sometime soon.

Glad it was New Mexico and not Mexico

Another plus of the state was the amazing food and legal weed shops.

I don’t really pay attention when my girlfriend books trips for us. She just tells me where I am going, how long I am going and what to pack. When my girlfriend mentioned New Mexico, I stupidly thought we were going to Mexico. I was picturing really hot weather, dry sand and authentic Mexican food. I also was prepared to mainly stay in the hotel because of the dangers. Rather than a long plane ride down to Mexico, it was a short trip to New Mexico. I quickly felt dumb when I realized she was talking about one of hte U.S states. I am thankful we ended up going there instead. Obviously the state is extremely safe and the people are friendly. The weather is hot, but not extremely so. There were tons of things to do too. I found the local hiking trails really cool. The Volcanoes Day Use Area at Petroglyph National Monument has a tow mile hiking loop that I really liked. There was also Sandia Peak Tramway and Bear Canyon Arroyo Open Space that I hiked around. My girlfriend and I loved the scenic walks. None of them were overly gruelling or taxing. The landscapes were just beautiful. We even choose to rent bikes one day and do some of the paved paths. Another plus of the state was the amazing food and legal weed shops. There were tons of wineries that we could taste and purchase their handmade products. I really liked that. It seems like New Mexico had a little something for everyone. I am really glad I got to go there.

Food and fitness in New Mexico

I consider myself to be a foodie. When I go on a trip, I research the heck out of it. I look into the eating establishments for hours. It is pressing to me to have a great hotel and fantastic spots to eat at. If I can find a little cafe with bread, cheeses and desserts, I am going to go there. My ideal trip would be to just walk around hunting for shops, eating and drinking. I wouldn’t mind seeing some pretty sights and getting pampered in the hotel spa. My fiance is an active gmanuy. He enjoys biking, jogging and hiking. On a trip he wants to do stuff and see things. He is down with going on a tour, taking a car around the country or going on a long bike ride. For me, that doesn’t sound all that fun. I have to be really careful when planning a trip that it isn’t totally for one person. Thankfully I found a good trip location that will cater to us both. Albuquerque, NM has everything we could possibly need. I found some gorgeous hiking and biking trails. I also found a hotel that is really cool looking, but has a running path for my fiance. He can run and see the sights while I get pampered at the hotel spa. I even found that there are tons of different eating establishments with amazing cuisine. It is in NM so obviously there are tons of Mexican locations to eat. I also found the Golden Crown Panaderia has all sorts of breads and desserts. One bread is a red-chile bread that I am dying to try. I know I need to take my fiance out all afternoon before I can get him sitting in a little shop with me.

Wine and cannabis are the best combination

My partner is a big wine fan.

I wanted to take him on a trip where he could do some wine drinking, although I would have something to do as well.

I wanted to stay in the US as well. I looked around at the different states trying to find the place that would cater to both of us. I then landed on NM because the landscapes were just gorgeous. Then I started finding that there are a lot of different wineries and wine tasting events there. Secondly, NM has legal weed for sale. I found lots of different cannabis dispensaries, cannabis cafes and events. I am a big time marijuana smoker. I want to smoke it, or try an edible and sometimes grab CBD oil. I found that Albuquerque, NM has a fantastic selection of wineries and cannabis dispensaries. Casa Rondeña was one of the locations that stood out to me. The vineyards were giant and the winery was sizable as well. The actual location looked pretty with all the plants, flowers and vines. There also is a wine shop and wine tasting room. My idea is to take my partner to Case Rondeña and let him tour the winery, taste some unusual wines and spend a long time while he shops around. The next afternoon will be all for me. I want to experience a vape lounge, dab bar and try all sorts of new cannabis products. I suppose we will both enjoy each other’s events. There are other things to do in NM as well. There are all kinds of museums and hiking trails.
