While visiting my cousin Deb in Phoenix, AZ, she said we were going on a centipede tour. Deb said she wasn’t sure because she had never gone on one, but she wanted to. I had never been on an ATV, and I wasn’t sure Deb had ever been on an ATV. Neither of us was sure it was something we wanted to do, but we were both adventurous. I looked at the temperature and knew that when our three-hour tour was up, the temperature will have risen, but it was going to drop to 99 degrees. I wondered if those two degrees would make a difference, but Deb had already made the reservations. If I thought it was hot at 101 degrees, I didn’t realize how much hotter it would be while wearing all the special clothing. I wished I had a space outfit on that was air-conditioned on the inside. I felt like a prune till I got off the ATV. My skin was shrivelled from the sweat, and all I wanted was to go back to her house and spend the rest of my holiday in the air conditioning.

I had to go to Illinois on business, and the nearest hotel was in Orland Park, IL. I wasn’t sure what I was going to when in between meetings, but I soon learned that walking was the best option. The weather was gorgeous, and unlike where I lived, I didn’t feel the need for air conditioning. The daytime temperatures barely reached the 80s, and it was nearly the end of June. I was used to having the air conditioning running in April, but it was different here. The temperature climate made it comfortable to walk in between meetings, and even in the middle of the day. One afternoon, I went jogging. I came back to the hotel to get a cool shower before going back to the meeting room, but I didn’t really need the air conditioning. My visit to Orland Park, IL, wasn’t just fruitful for business, but it was one of the nicest towns I had ever visited. I even got to do some sightseeing while there. I was surprised at how beautiful Centennial Park was. I jogged around Centennial Park before settling down for the evening, and I had never slept so well. I got back to the hotel comfortably tired, showered and laid down. I turned the air conditioning on just to give me some noise. Living in the city was so different from being in Orland Park, IL, and I hoped to come back more often. Who knows, if I can talk my wife into moving north when we retire, we may choose to live in Orland Park.

It has been a while since marijuana has been legalized in IL. Last week, the newspaper that is published in Chicago, IL, came out with a bold statement. States that have legalized cannabis have seen an increase in motor vehicle accidents related to cannabis use. Not only is it dangerous to drive while high or drunk, but it is illegal. Driving while using pot is considered DUI, which is the same as driving while intoxicated. Not only is it dangerous to the person using the pot, but it is dangerous to others. Just like with alcohol use, marijuana use can cause impairment and should not be consumed before or during the operation of a vehicle. The use of alcohol or marijuana should also be avoided when performing a task that has other risks; such as the use of heavy equipment or any type of sharp tools. I didn’t know if the area of Chicago, IL had seen any uptick in the amount of DUIs or vehicle accidents caused by marijuana, but it is something to look into. My son will soon be twenty-one, and if he hasn’t already tried marijuana, I’m sure he will soon. I know he is looking forward to going to the casino and having his first legal alcoholic drink. I can only pray he doesn’t get into the car and try to drive after using. Maybe I’ll cut out the article that talks about the problems that come with using marijuana and driving. I would hate to hear he was arrested for DUI, or something worse.
