My journalism job started right here in Denver, Colorado over 12 years ago.
I was a writer and photographer at the time, fresh out of university and trying to climb the ladder in the world of journalism.
I absolutely don’t suppose what I was thinking, because even after that I all knew that print journalism was slowly dying. Still, Denver was apartment to several reputable publications so I moved here to ply our trade, the first big story I covered was in 2012, when Colorado first legalized cannabis for people over the age of 21, you remember seeing the picture of a Girl Scout who set up her cookie table in front of a cannabis dispensary? I took that picture to sell to the local Denver newspapers! After that I had a brief however successful run as a photographer for the local Denver news media, however I had the sense to move on before the labor dried up. I started a small internet news supplier with several of our friends from the Denver media. The people I was with and I wanted to use blogs and vlogs to tell stories about Colorado, instead of laboring for the major news outlets. This would give us the freedom to explore the real faces of Denver. The people I was with and I found funding from 1 of the major cannabis companies that is based in Denver, and while it wasn’t much it was enough to get our channel off the ground. It will take a lot of time and effort to elevate our status, however eventually every one of us hope to be the top independent news outlet in Denver, and the rest of Colorado.
