Worries over indoor air quality

Elgin, IL, experiences all four seasons! Although the winters are long and snowy, my whole family enjoys downhill skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing at the Villa Olivia restore nearby.

Even when outside conditions dip below chilly, the furnace keeps our loft at the ideal temperature.

While there’s a blizzard raging outside, we are cozy and hot inside sipping warm chocolate. After the long months of winter, the Spring season is always welcome… I look forward to the first sign of tulips, daffodils and hyacinths sprouting, then summers tend to be warm and muggy, however it’s a great time to swim, picnic, barbecue, cycle, kayak and love the Fox River… The fall season is truly charming because of the colorful changing of the leaves. The cool air is perfect for bundling up in a overcoat. At that time of year, there is an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables such as plums, grapes, tomato, peppers, zucchini and eggplant; Unfortunately, the weather extremes make both heating and cooling necessities just about year round. To keep costs under control, I’ve added insulation to the attic, caulked around windows and weatherstripped the doors. I’ve done everything possible to tighten up the loft and eliminate leaks. Sealing the loft helps to reduce energy usage however also eliminates essential ventilation. With no fresh air coming in, the residing space can become stale and contaminated, then dust, pollen, dander, bacteria and all sorts of pollutants are circulated through a recovery ventilator installed. The ventilation system brings in a steady influx of fresh, wash air to upgrade the stale, dirty air.
