Going to Yosemite and stopping for legal weed

It is also around 50 minutes away from the airport.

My brother flew to California with his wife and they went to Yosemite. My brother loves going on big hikes and seeing the world. He actually got a permit so that he could hike half dome. He bought hiking poles and all sorts of climbing equipment. My brother and his wife got up at 5am to complete the hike since it is around 10-12 hours in order to do it. Half dome sounded amazing and from the pictures looked like it. I am not that ambitious though. There is a Mist Trail and a Nevada waterfall that sounds more up my alley. I am right now looking into the trip. I don’t want to fly into a city like San Fran or Las Vegas. I have decided that I am going to fly as close to Yosemite as possible. The Fresno Yosemite airport isn’t that far away from the park. If I rent a car I can hike and go back to my hotel, which is cheaper than staying in the park. I looked around the area because I know I won’t only want to go to the national park. Surprisingly there is a fairly big city near Yosemite and that is Visalia. It is also around 50 minutes away from the airport. So it works in my itinerary all around. I am going to fly in, hike a bit, go to Visalia and fly back out of the same airport. In Visalia I am hoping to shop around, eat good food and take advantage of the fact that there is recreational weed for sale.

I don't mind the Buffalo suburbs

Last September, I got a promotion at my job that required me to move to Buffalo NY. At first, I second guessed moving to Buffalo because I love living in New York City, but after careful consideration, I decided to take the leap. Before I moved, I did some research about Buffalo, and I was a bit concerned about the weather because Buffalo NY is a lot colder than it is in the city. In fact, on average the temperature in Buffalo NY in the Winter is typically 10 to 15 degrees lower than the temperature in NYC, and they get three times the snow. I do enjoy seeing the snow, and I welcome that, but I knew the cold temperatures would be a challenge for me. Hence, the first thing that I did when I moved was to make sure that my HVAC system was running efficiently, and it could handle those brutally cold Winter days. I found a local HVAC provider and had a technician inspect the unit. He provided some tips on how best to conserve energy, while remaining comfortable in my home. The technician recommended that I followed the guidelines of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and set the thermostat to 68 degrees in the Winter. I thought that was a bit too cold, but I have been doing it, and the house is more comfortable than I thought it would be. He also recommended that I installed a programmable thermostat to conserve even more energy. I have not yet done so because I am doing the research on getting a zone HVAC system installed. I think that is something that will make sense since I plan on staying in Buffalo NY for a while.

Portland Oregon has a killer drive-in movie theater

It boggles my mind that in other places you can’t do something like sit in your car and smoke marijuana without fear of going to jail.

I call myself a cinephile, which is a fancy word for “movie lover.” I live in perhaps the greatest city in the world for someone like me. Let me describe a typical movie-going experience for me. First I scan the local listings, because Portland Oregon is home to over a dozen different second run movie theaters, as well as three cineplexes and two drive-in theaters. There are dozens of movies to choose from on any given night! I selected a theater with recliner seating, one that offers a menu and a full bar, and watch a classic movie from the 70s. If I have picked the right place, then I can also use my vape pen to enjoy some cannabis, because that’s how great a city Portland is! My recent favorite has been the drive in theater, because I stay in my car the whole time so I can smoke cannabis or engage in whatever activities I want to! God bless Portland and the whole state of Oregon for being such a chill, laid back place to live. It boggles my mind that in other places you can’t do something like sit in your car and smoke marijuana without fear of going to jail. Oregon has the same indoor smoking bans as most other places, so you can’t smoke pot inside most businesses in Portland. But that isn’t something you go to jail for, you would just get kicked out. The drive-in has been great for allowing me to fully indulge in cannabis, as well as fully immerse myself in the movie.

My brother opened a dispensary in Old Town after retiring from a career in the military

I didn’t know my brother was interested in the military until he called a family meeting among my parents and siblings.

  • He said that it was his dream to fly a fighter jet, and had discussed his options with an Air Force recruiter.

Since Kirtland Air Force Base is on the south end of Albuquerque, it meant that he could live close to home during training and whenever he returned from deployment. We watched his career blossom as he worked his way up through the ranks starting as an Airman and eventually becoming a Captain. Those around him expected my brother to stay in the Air Force for perpetuity, but he told me he was burned out and started using cannabis secretly. At the time he was subject to disciplinary action if he was busted with the plant or failed a surprise drug test. When it came time to renew his enlistment contract, he decided to retire with dignity at the height of his career. Then he baffled us all when he cashed in one of his retirement plans and purchased an empty storefront building on San Felipe St. in Old Town. He looked the happiest I have ever seen him, and his store has been a success since day one. A lot of his customers live in Los Volcanes and West Mesa, right on the other side of the Rio Grande River. Since there aren’t nearly as many cannabis stores in Albuquerque as there are in places like Denver and Los Angeles, my brother’s store doesn’t struggle nearly as much to survive among his competition in nearby areas.

Building up my podcast in Ann Arbor

When it comes to interesting bits of American history, it is hard to top Michigan.

Long before it was even a state, before there was even a USA, this was a fascinating part of the world. This is the region where various indigenous tribes met, to either barter or wage war, and later it was a connection point between Canada and the United States. The whole reason I started my podcast was just to collect all the interesting bits of local lore and legend from the Ann Arbor part of the state. Things really started to take off once I started doing more research on the history of cannabis in the Ann Arbor area. Not only did I find a lot of great material, but I started to get more popular, just because cannabis is such a hot topic here in Ann Arbor. One of the local Ann Arbor cannabis dispensaries even started sponsoring my show, and that has really been a shot in the arm for my self confidence. There are a lot of podcasts out there and it is hard to stand out, even in the comparatively small pond that is Ann Arbor, Michigan. You would think that I don’t have a lot of local competition, but there are actually over 100 podcasts that come from Ann Arbor, and twelve of them have to do with cannabis! That’s a lot of fierce competition, but my series on the history of cannabis cultivation in Ann Arbor is getting more popular every week, so maybe I have turned a corner.
